Last week, we introduced a way of prioritising energy.
This was the Growth Quadrant System and it was based off the fact that we are all human and therefore have only 10 points of energy to split between four key areas of life.
These were:
– Work
– Physical Practice/Training
– Recovery
– Relationships
This system gives us a simple and practical way of identifying areas in our life that need more (or less) attention.
This week, we’ll build on this.
In the previous post, I shared my breakdown of the Growth Quadrants and how, considering this, it was apparent I needed to re-consider my priorities in alignment with my goals.
Here is where the growth aspect comes in.
See, this system provides the awareness, but it is up to us to actually change and grow.
Once you’ve identified where you’re energy is spent currently, then it’s time for you to identify your ideal use of your energy.
Perhaps, your goals are performance related and therefore, training requires more of your energy.
Maybe you’ve just had a baby and most of your points need to be spent purely on your relationships.
Or, you feel totally burned out from work and realise that recovery needs to be more of a focus.
Take me for example…
Here is where I am now:
Work: 6
Physical Practice: 2
Relationships: 1
Recovery: 1
However, here is where I want to be:
Work: 3
Physical Practice: 2
Relationships: 3
Recovery: 2
The second picture looks far more balanced and after seeing this, I now have an understanding of which key quadrants I need to grow in.
But that’s my ideal, and yours may (and should) look totally different.
So consider where you’re at, then consider your ideal. Do these line up?
Then ask: Where do you want to grow? What do you need to change?
As for how to change, that’s something we are all learning our own way – we can save that conversation for another post.
